AIFA to Mexico City:
Bus, Train & What
to Avoid
Felipe Ángeles International Airport (NLU) is further from the city than you think. Here is every option, the honest costs, and the combination we actually recommend.
So you booked a flight into AIFA. Maybe it was cheaper. Maybe it was the only option. Either way, you are now about to discover that Felipe Ángeles International Airport is not like landing at Benito Juárez. It is newer, quieter, and considerably further from the city. Plan the journey before you land and it is perfectly manageable. Skip that step and you will be in a taxi line spending money you did not budget for.
Mexico City has three airports
AIFA to Roma, Condesa, or Juárez takes around 2.5 hours. Budget the time. Do not schedule anything tight on arrival day.
Two things to know before you start planning:
Uber does not operate at AIFA
The app will not find you a driver at this airport. Do not count on it. Plan your route using the bus or train below, then use Uber once you are inside the city.
We do not recommend the official airport taxi service
Official taxis from AIFA charge around 600 pesos to reach the city center. Beyond the price, the airport taxi organization has a poor track record. We do not support or recommend this service. Use the bus or train instead.
The good news: the two alternatives below are cheaper, more comfortable, and more interesting than a taxi.
Train to Buenavista (110 pesos) then Uber to your final destination (around 150 pesos). Comfortable, predictable, no luggage stress on the Metro. If you only remember one thing from this guide, make it this.
Option 1: Interurban Train to Buenavista
Mexico City has a brand new interurban train running directly from AIFA to Buenavista station inside the city. It is the smoothest option on this route and the one we recommend.
Metrobús Line 1 stops from Buenavista
Option 2: Bus (ADO or ETN)
Two main bus lines run direct service from AIFA into the city: ADO and ETN. Both are comfortable, air-conditioned, and reliable. Tickets cost around 180 pesos per person and can be booked online before you travel.
TAPO: Recommended destination
Choose TAPO (Terminal de Autobuses de Pasajeros de Oriente) as your destination. On arrival you have a direct connection to Metro Pink Line (Line 1), which takes you straight into the central neighborhoods.
Terminal del Norte: Alternative
Terminal del Norte also works but has no clean Metro connection for the final leg. From here the easiest move is a short Uber into the city, usually around 150 pesos.
Which option should you take?
| Option | Cost | Comfort | Onward from arrival |
|---|---|---|---|
| Train + Uber | ~260 pesos total | Best | Uber from Buenavista (works normally) |
| Train + Metrobús Line 1 | ~115 pesos total | Good | Walk from Metrobús stop to accommodation |
| Bus to TAPO + Metro | ~185 pesos total | Good | Metro Line 1 direct to neighborhood |
| Bus to Terminal Norte + Uber | ~330 pesos total | Good | Uber from Terminal Norte |
| Official airport taxi | ~600 pesos | Not recommended | Direct but overpriced |
Which neighborhood are you going to?
| Neighborhood | Metro stop (Line 1) | Metrobús stop (Line 1) |
|---|---|---|
| Roma | Insurgentes or Sevilla | Durango, Álvaro Obregón or Sonora |
| Condesa | Chapultepec or Juanacatlán | Campeche or Chilpancingo |
| Juárez | Cuauhtémoc | Hamburgo or Insurgentes |
